Van Bikeradar: New Knog Scout combines 85-decibel bike alarm and Apple AirTag tracker

Knog’s all-new Scout combines Apple’s Find My app compatibility with a loud alarm for a dual-purpose and discreet security solution.

The unit is claimed to weigh 35.7g including cover and hardware and is designed to fit on your bike’s bottle cage bosses. Production units will come with long bolts, which Knog says will enable the Scout to sit under any standard bottle cage.

GPS bike trackers and Apple’s AirTag attachments have become big business in bike security in recent years and provide extra security (or, at least, traceability) should thieves manage to overcome one of the best bike locks.

The Scout charges from a USB-C power source and battery life is a claimed six months.

The Scout is activated with Knog’s own app (Knog Mobile) and once paired with your phone, the app also makes the Scout visible as a device to Apple’s ‘Find my’ app.

The app enables you to arm and disarm the Scout remotely, along with setting the device’s sensitivity to movement and alarm settings (tone and volume).

We tested out the alarm and its 85-decibel volume is loud enough to command your attention. The tracker is designed to alert your phone via text should your bike be moved (taken).

The bike can then be tracked within your iPhone’s app.

The sealed unit is rated to IP67 for waterproofing, which should make it suitable for use in all weathers. We’ve got a Scout on test, so look out for a full review soon.

The Scout is available now and priced at: $59.95 / €59.95 / £54.95 / AU$94.95.
